RBS1955 -- prototype of low-luminosity magnetic CVsquestionMark

RBS1955 is a nearby, highlatitude CV discovered by ROSAT. Detailed opticalfollowup suggests a likely magnetic nature, a likely link between polars andintermediate polars. Its spectral energy distribution with a large opticalexcess is atypical for either class. We propose followup with XMMNewton fortiming and spectroscopy to determine its energy budget and likely accretionscenario. RBS1955like CVs might be important contributors to the yet unresolvedgalactic hard Xray emission and knowledge of their Xray properties is thusimportant for models of the galactic Xray emission. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
