North Temperate Lakes LTER Yahara Lakes District Wildland Urban Interface

The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) is the area where houses meet or intermingle with
undeveloped wildland vegetation. This makes the WUI a focal area for human-environment
conflicts such as wildland fires, habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and biodiversity
decline. Using geographic information systems (GIS), we integrated U.S. Census and USGS
National Land Cover Data, to map the Federal Register definition of WUI (Federal Register
66:751, 2001). These data are useful within a GIS for mapping and analysis at national,
state, and local levels.

野地-城市交界区（Wildland-Urban Interface, WUI）指住宅与未开发野地植被接壤或混杂的区域。该区域是人类与环境冲突的核心地带，易诱发野火、生境破碎化、外来物种入侵及生物多样性下降等问题。本研究借助地理信息系统（Geographic Information Systems, GIS），整合美国人口普查数据与美国地质调查局（United States Geological Survey, USGS）全国土地覆盖数据，依据《2001年第66卷第751期联邦公报》中对WUI的法定定义完成制图。该数据集可应用于地理信息系统平台，支持国家、州级及地方层面的制图与分析工作。
