<b>Association between oxidative balance score and systemic immune-inflammation index: NHANES 2003–2018</b>

As is well-known, the relationship between oxidative stress and inflammation was interdependent and interconnected, and the exact mechanism is being studied extensively. However, the research of this association was rare based on large population surveys. Notably, the Oxidative Balance Score (OBS), which could evaluate an individual’s overall antioxidant status based on 20 antioxidant and pro-oxidant components, and the Systemic immune-inflammation index (Sll), which could evaluate systemic inflammatory response, were two novel indexes. Therefore, this study adopted OBS and SII to evaluate the association between oxidative stress and inflammation using nationally representative population surveys of NHANES. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first research to investigate the relationship between OBS and SII using NHANES data. In addition, this study also conducted subgroup analysis, interaction test and non‑linear relationship analyses to explore the association further. Multiple sensitivity analyses ensured the robustness of the results.Our results illustrated that OBS was negatively associated with SII among adults. This funding emphasized that it is essential to adhere to enhancing an individual’s overall antioxidant status in diet and lifestyle and that it is helpful for the reduction of inflammation index.
众所周知,氧化应激(Oxidative Stress)与炎症之间的关系相互依存、紧密关联,其具体机制目前正被广泛研究。然而,基于大型人群调查开展的此类关联研究仍较为少见。值得注意的是,氧化平衡评分(Oxidative Balance Score, OBS)与全身免疫炎症指数(Systemic immune-inflammation index, SII)是两项新型指标:前者可基于20种抗氧化与促氧化成分评估个体整体抗氧化状态,后者可用于评价全身炎症反应。因此,本研究借助美国国家健康与营养调查(National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, NHANES)的全国代表性人群数据,采用OBS与SII对氧化应激与炎症的关联展开分析。据我们所知,本研究是首个利用NHANES数据探究OBS与SII之间关联的研究。此外,本研究还开展了亚组分析、交互作用检验及非线性关系分析,以进一步探索二者的关联。多重敏感性分析确保了研究结果的稳健性。本研究结果显示,成人群体中OBS与SII呈负相关。这一发现强调,在饮食与生活方式中持续提升个体整体抗氧化状态至关重要,同时也有助于降低炎症相关指数。
