SusInfra- Sustainability in Infrastructure
The construction and maintenance of the transport infrastructure contribute significantly to the nationwide CO2 emissions. The complex sustainability aspects, such as the material consumption over the life cycle, have a far-reaching optimization potential. In the tenders for the construction measures, only the submitted offer prices have so far been compared with each other. This puts the importance of sustainability aspects into the background at an early stage of decision-making, thereby shaping the following life cycle phases. While sustainability assessments are already widespread in building construction, they are not yet so well established in infrastructure construction. However, there is an increasing trend to integrate sustainability criteria into infrastructure construction to ensure that public infrastructure projects are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable in the long term. The SusInfra project investigates the status quo of road sustainability assessments and innovative decision support technologies with the aim of developing an intelligent sustainability assessment tool for BIM-based assessments. The framework document presents the first basic information on sustainability assessment in infrastructure and collects opportunities and challenges for the implementation of new processes in favour of sustainable infrastructure planning. A survey was carried out to determine and weight the most important social sustainability criteria in road construction. The results can be viewed here. The application in the SusInfra sustainability tool is tested. For more information, see: https://bmdv.bund.de/SharedDocs/DE/Artikel/DG/mfund-projekte/SusInfra.html
