Tiberio's Devil - Riolo Terme - Italy

"Re Tiberio" karst system is located in Mount Tondo, in the territory of Riolo Terme, (Ravenna Italy). It's the second longest epigenetic gypsum cave in Italy (more than 6,000 m long with a depth of nearly 200 m). The cave is a nationally important archaeological site, actively frequented from the Copper Age. Records and archaeological traces are present in the first hundred meters of the cavity. In addition to several burial sites, the cave retains traces of numerous processes and adaptations. The traces are linked to multiple time horizons, while their function has not yet been clearly defined. The walls also retain a multiplicity of writings engraved in the soft gypsum rock. Names and dates in most cases linked to frequentation in the contemporary age from the 17th century. The so-called "devil of Tiberius" represents the only figurative engraving currently identified. Located in the first part of the cave about 40 meters from the entrance.
