The Thomas Creek Site (SUBi-1546, NYSM #10135) was identified in 1994 during a cultural resource management reconnaissance survey in NYSDOT Region 9 (Loren, Rafferty and Kastl 1994). Following the completion of the survey and review of the findings by the New York State Museum (NYSM) and NYSDOT, a site examination was performed. In 1995 the Thomas Creek Site was declared eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and a Data Recovery was requested by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPR&HP) and preparation of a DRP was authorized by the NYSDOT and NYSM. Reconnaissance and site examination indicated that the Thomas Creek Site is likely to yield information important to interpreting the Middle Woodland period in the Susquehanna and Chenango Valleys of central New York state. The site probably represents a temporary camp or resource processing area along a tributary stream of a major drainage. The research here is proposed to address several topics including Intra-site structure, feature analysis, stratification of deposits, lithic technology, pottery technology, as well as a synthesis of those data in relation to modes of Middle Woodland regional organizational land use.

(New York State Department of Transportation, NYSDOT)第9区域的文化资源管理踏勘调查中被发现(Loren、Rafferty与Kastl,1994)。 (New York State Museum, NYSM)与纽约州运输部对调查结果开展评审,并随即实施了遗址勘查工作。
