Resting and maximal exercise respiratory rates decline in aging, but the efficiency of muscular exercise is well maintained. We interrogated numerous structural and functional aspects of the mitochondrial reticulum using a standard mouse model of aging. We observed no age-associated changes in coupling efficiency of mitochondrial preparations, but respiratory control decreased and there were numerous subtle changes in mitochondrial morphology in aging mouse muscles. Overall mitochondrial functioning is well preserved in aging indicating the performance decrements are related to loss of muscle mass and cardiovascular function.
随着机体衰老,静息状态与极量运动时的呼吸频率均会下降,但肌肉运动的效率仍能保持良好。本研究采用标准化衰老小鼠模型,对线粒体网状结构的多项结构与功能特征进行了探查分析。研究发现,线粒体制品的耦合效率未出现与衰老相关的显著变化,但呼吸控制功能出现下降,且衰老小鼠肌肉组织的线粒体形态存在多处细微改变。衰老过程中线粒体整体功能仍得以较好保留,这表明机体运动能力的下降与肌肉量流失及心血管功能损伤相关。
