Respiratory microbiota in children with severe lower respiratory tract infections.

In this project, the dynamics of the nasopharyngeal, salivary and lower respiratory microbiota in young children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit for severe lower respiratory tract infection are investigated using 16S rRNA sequencing of the V4 hypervariable region. It aims to study the effects of intubation and antibiotic treatment on the respiratory microbiota during mechanical ventilation, as well as recovery of the respiratory microbiota thereafter.
