DNS measurement dataset: geographic diversity, temporal stability, and resolver comparison (RIPE Atlas, 2026)

This dataset contains active DNS measurement results collected via RIPE Atlas between 2 April and 8 August 2026 (127 days), covering 250 domains from the Tranco domain list. Measurements address four research questions:- Q1: Geographic diversity of authoritative name server responses across continents- Q2: Temporal stability of DNS responses over time- Q3: Probe selection bias in distributed measurement platforms- Q4: Divergence between public resolvers (Google 8.8.8.8, Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Quad9 9.9.9.9) Three measurement phases were conducted:- Pilot (2–10 April 2026): 100 domains × ~50 probes, zone-based selection- Campaign 1 (12 April – 11 June 2026): 248 domains × 200 probes, zone-based selection (~12,838 cumulative probe IDs, 61 days)- Campaign 2 (14 June – 8 August 2026): 201 domains × 150 probes, continent-stratified selection (136 countries, 56 days) A supplementary one-off Q4 campaign ran in June 2026 targeting 233 domains across ~200 probes per domain for each of the three public resolvers.
