本数据集为基于维管植物（vascular plant）物种组成的定量聚类分析所界定的植被类型空间分布。本地图采用决策规则模型构建，采用Keith与Bedward提出的伊登植被分类法（Eden vegetation classification）。本数据版本为4.0，发布于1999年5月，其说明性注释刊载于学术期刊《Cunninghamia》第6卷第1期。数据集包含两类覆盖图层：欧洲殖民前的原生植被状态与当前现存植被状态；本地图的植被清除范围信息由1994年Landsat卫星影像解译得到。相关地图可查阅VISID 2502与ANZNS0208000076。
