A Slocum glider was deployed in the eastern Gulf of Mexico off Tampa Bay in May and June 2017. As the glider traverses its transit path, it makes measurements at various depths from ~2 m to near the seafloor or up to 200 m. While the glider is deployed at sea, it surfaces and communicates to an onshore control station at predetermined intervals. A decimated selection of vehicle and science measurement is transmitted during these surface transmissions, and the relevant data becomes available through a USF web site. After the gliderâs recovery at the end of the deployment, the complete measurement suite is downloaded from the vehicle and processed and becomes available through the USF site as well as a national data archive. The measurements in this data set include conductivity, temperature, depth, chlorophyll and gelbstoff fluorescence, and dissolved O2. Other data sets for this deployment include acoustic tag telemetry receiver detections, passive acoustic recordings, and echo sounder water column data. The glider was deployed on 2017-05-16 at the 30 m isobath. It traversed for a week to the NW before turning WSW to the 150 m isobath, turned around and made its way bath NE before turning SE. It was recovered on 2017-06-12. The intent was for the glider to follow the progression of the Gulfstream Natural Gas Pipeline before and after a transect out to the shelf break, collecting water quality and acoustic data sets.

2017年5月至6月,一台斯洛克姆滑翔机(Slocum glider)被部署于墨西哥湾东部坦帕湾外海海域。该滑翔机沿航行路径行进期间,会在约2米至近海底或200米深度区间内的不同水层开展测量作业。在海上部署阶段,滑翔机会按照预设周期上浮,并与陆上控制站建立通信。每次上浮通信时,会传输经过精简筛选的载具状态与科学测量数据,相关数据可通过南佛罗里达大学(USF)的官方网站公开获取。
待部署任务结束、滑翔机回收后,科研人员会从载具中下载完整的测量数据集,经过处理后,相关数据既可以通过南佛罗里达大学(USF)网站公开,也会上传至国家数据档案馆进行存档并公开。本数据集包含的测量指标包括电导率、温度、深度、叶绿素与黄质荧光、溶解氧。
本次部署的其他配套数据集还包括声学标记遥测接收器检测数据、被动声学录音数据以及回声测深仪水柱剖面数据。
该斯洛克姆滑翔机于2017年5月16日在30米等深线处完成部署,先向西北方向航行一周,随后转向西南偏西方向,行进至150米等深线区域后折返,向东北方向航行,之后再转向东南方向。最终该滑翔机于2017年6月12日被回收。本次部署的核心目标是让滑翔机在往返陆架坡折带的断面航行前后,沿墨西哥湾流天然气管线的路径行进,同步采集水质与声学相关数据集。
