The Oxford Nanopore MinION represents a real opportunity to democratise sequencing. However, there is a need for training in key molecular biology and bioinformatics skills to enable researchers to make use of the platform. We created and ran a five-day workshop (PoreCamp) which was attended by 28 researchers from a variety of backgrounds with the intention of learning about how to use the MinION sequencer. This hands-on bootcamp provided a novel opportunity to learn from experts in the field of nanopore sequencing.
