The 1KM Global Population Density Distribution Product produces estimates of population density (number of people per square kilometer) for the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2020, which are based on national population census and population register data and adjusted in accordance with United Nations country-specific standards. The spatial resolution of the dataset is 30 arcseconds (approximately 1 kilometer at the equator). To facilitate faster global processing, the 30-arcsecond data is aggregated to resolutions of 2.5 arcminutes, 15 arcminutes, 30 arcminutes and 1 degree.
