Vulcan v4.0–Onroad (DARTE grid) provides annual estimates of onroad FFCO2 (fossil fuel CO2) emissions across U.S. road segments from 2010 to 2017 at a spatial resolution of 1km2. These estimates are based on county-level FFCO2 emissions data obtained from the 2014 and 2017 National Emissions Inventory (NEI). The NEI tracks onroad emissions by U.S. county, distinguishing among 13 vehicle types (which include various vehicle classes and fuel types) and five road types (including parking), as well as differentiating between urban and rural roads. The county level FFCO2 emissions data is scaled temporally from 2010-2022 (the entire range of Vulcan v4). The emissions are then allocated to all motorable road segments across the U.S. Finally, the native resolution data is gridded at 1km2 using the DARTE fishnet (grid descriptors).
