Digital Archive from an Archaeological Watching Brief at Main Road, Broomfield, October 2018

This collection comprises image and text data from an archaeological watching brief on land west of Main Road, Broomfield. The work was undertaken by Archaeology South-East in October 2018. Following evaluation of the 25.64 hectares site, in 2017, an archaeological watching brief comprised the monitoring of the excavation of three geotechnical trial pits located in the north-east of the site. Natural Lowestoft deposits were cut by a feature of uncertain function in one of the monitored trial-pits. The feature was dated to the Early Roman period and, in conjunction with the remains recorded during the previous evaluation, may comprise the remains of a possible boundary ditch. Elsewhere deposits containing small quantities of prehistoric and medieval material were recorded overlying the natural strata; these may constitute the fills of features that could not be observed within the small trial pits.
