ABSTRACT In the personal archive of Jessy Cherem (1929-2014), two documents stand out: they are old letters sent from a former student to a teacher from Santa Catarina, kept for over fifty years. By investigating the path taken by these missives, it was possible to locate them on their return and final destination, with their author. Submitted by a student, its contents demonstrate the significant presence of a teacher leaving marks beyond the classroom. These documentary traces are here recognized as carriers of memories, as they testify to stories that make it possible to make approximations, with lived moments, political contexts, sensitivities and educational scenarios, thus contributing with new aspects to the History of Education.
