Schizosaccharomyces kambucha strain:SZY13 Genome sequencing

Genome sequencing of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces kambucha, a species that is closely related to the model organism Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Despite being 99.5% identical at the nucleotide level, these two fission yeast mate to form largely inviable gametes. This project aims to provide a genomic assembly for S. kambucha, similar to the one available for S. pombe, to help determine the differences that can arise on such a short evolutionary time scale that can lead to hybrid infertility.
