This collection comprises images and a report from a level 1 basic building survey of Ferryhill Station Primary School, Ferryhill, County Durham. This work was undertaken by York Archaeology in April 2024. The heritage statement has demonstrated that the significance of Ferryhill Station Primary School derives from its historic and architectural interests, in part derived from its contribution to the understanding of Ferryhill Station's historical development and the increased demand for educational facilities owing to population growth associated with the development of the mining and lime burning industries. The survival of historic fabric within the buildings illustrates the prevailing ideas that governed the design of schools during the period. The architectural interest is derived from an appreciation of the polite domestic revival style of parts of the school and the ideas it imbued, as well as the use of traditional materials that provide continuity between the site and surrounding historic environment.
