New light motorcycle registrations in Germany 2013-2023

Registrations of light motorcycles, with engines below 125cc, rose by 80 percent between 2019 and 2020. This steep increase can be at least in part attributed to a combination of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and a new motorcycle license class, which simplifies access to licenses for light motorcycles. Registrations dropped off slightly after 2020 but remained at a relatively high level, totaling 34,700 units in 2023.
