Knowledge and Practices of Asepsis and Antisepsis in Oral Surgery among Dental Students

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge and practices in asepsis and antisepsis protocols during oral surgical procedures among dental students at the Dr. René A. Puig Bentz Clinic during the period May-August 2025. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional methodological design was used. The sample consisted of 92 students distributed among clinics I to VII. Data were collected using two instruments: a structured questionnaire with eight questions to assess theoretical knowledge, and a checklist with 19 items to record clinical practices observed during surgical procedures. The results indicated that 84.78% (n=78) had a high level of knowledge and 15.22% (n=14) had an average level. Clinic VII had the lowest average (80.95%) and clinic III had the highest (100%). The most frequent practices were: use of insulating paper and mask (100%), use of disposable cap and preparation of the surgical field (99%), and disinfection of the chair (75%). The least frequently applied practices were: antisepsis of the patient's skin (3%), hand washing (10%), use of goggles or face shields (55%), and rinsing with chlorhexidine (58%). Clinic VI showed the highest practical compliance (74.74%) and Clinic III the lowest (68.98%). In conclusion, the results show a solid knowledge base in most students; however, this preparation is not always reflected in the practical implementation of asepsis and antisepsis protocols.

Puig Bentz Clinic）牙科学生在口腔外科手术中，无菌与防腐操作方案的知识掌握水平及临床实践情况。本研究采用观察性、描述性横断面研究设计。研究样本涵盖I至VII号诊所的92名牙科学生。研究采用两种工具收集数据：其一为包含8个问题的结构化问卷，用于评估学生的理论知识水平；其二为包含19个条目的核查表，用于记录手术过程中观察到的临床实践操作。结果显示，84.78%（n=78）的学生知识掌握水平较高，15.22%（n=14）的学生知识掌握水平中等。VII号诊所学生的平均知识得分最低（80.95%），III号诊所学生的平均知识得分最高（100%）。最常实施的操作包括：使用绝缘纸与口罩（100%）、使用一次性手术帽与手术区域准备（99%）、诊室椅消毒（75%）。最不常实施的操作包括：患者皮肤消毒（3%）、洗手（10%）、佩戴护目镜或面部防护面罩（55%）、使用氯己定（chlorhexidine）冲洗（58%）。VI号诊所的实践依从性最高（74.74%），III号诊所的实践依从性最低（68.98%）。综上，研究结果表明，多数牙科学生具备扎实的无菌与防腐操作理论知识，但该理论储备并未完全体现在无菌与防腐操作方案的临床实践落实中。
