This dataset was collected to study the difference between sexual orientation and mental health among a sample of 310 individuals, comprising 180 heterosexual and 130 sexual minority individuals. Specifically, the data numerically reports the complex relationship between mental health, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), resilience, and resilience coping skills in heterosexuals and sexual minorities. It also provides insight into how these differences manifest when analyzing both samples as a single group. The investigators employed the Revised ACEs Self-Report Scale (Felitti et al., 1998) for ACEs assessment, the Brief Resilience Scale (Smith et al., 2008) to gauge resilience levels, the Brief Resilience Coping Scale (Sinclair & Wallston, 2004) for evaluating resilience coping, and the Mental Health Continuum Short Form (Keyes et al., 2008) to assess mental health. The dataset is a resource for researchers, psychologists, and public health professionals who study the disparities in mental health, ACEs, resilience, and resilience coping skills across diverse populations. Findings from the data may inform targeted interventions, policies, and support systems aimed at improving the well-being of both heterosexuals and sexual minorities. It is important to note that the data is anonymized to safeguard participant privacy and adherence to ethical guidelines. Proper citation of the source study is strongly encouraged when utilizing this dataset for research or analysis.
