SEMANTIC EXPRESSION OF THE VALUE COMPONENT OF THE CONCEPT "EDUCATION" IN THE PHRASEOLOGICAL SYSTEM OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The article deals with the semantic expression of the value (axiological) component of the concept EDUCATION in the phraseological system of modern English. Relying on the three-component model of the concept (notional, figurative and value components) developed in Russian linguoculturology, the author analyzes 128 phraseological units selected by the continuous sampling method from lexicographic sources. The study identifies five semantic groups that verbalize the value component: the value of knowledge, the learning process, the opposition of wisdom and ignorance, teaching and upbringing, and the evaluation of the educated person. Quantitative analysis demonstrates that the axiological core of the concept is constituted by the absolute positive evaluation of knowledge, while ignorance is consistently marked as a deficit. The results contribute to the theory of phraseological concepts and may be applied in comparative studies of the English and Uzbek linguistic pictures of the world.
