This study reconstructs the artistic and personal story of Salvatore Biagio Serra (Soleto, 3 February 1910 - Rome, 28 October 1965), a key figure in the Italian wind bands tradition of the twentieth century. Trained at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia, Serra was a musician, composer, partisan, and conductor of both military and civilian wind bands. His multifaceted experience - from the Banda of the Guardia di Finanza to the roman Resistance, from the founding of postwar civic band institutions to his original compositional output - establishes him as a symbol of southern Italy's musical resilience.
