The Indonesia Social and Economic Survey (Susenas) is a nationwide survey conducted to collect information on social and economics indices. It serves as a main source of monitoring social and economic progress in society. Susenas has been conducted on an annual basis since 1963. Since 1992, in addition to a basic social and economic questionnaire (core), a more focused questionnaire was introduced (module). The core questionnaire covers basic information about household and individual characteristics including health, death, education/literacy, employment, fertility and family planning, housing, and household expenditure. This questionnaire is asked annually with only slight modifications over the years. Susenas 2001 core covered 220,896 households and was designed to be representative up to district/municipality levels. The module is intended to gather more detailed information on specific topics, especially on data that changes less frequently than yearly. There are three modules of Susenas and each module is added in a three-year cycle. In 2001, the module’s topic was housing and health. The data set covered 65,280 households. Both core questionnaire (Susenas Core) and module questionnaires (Susenas Module) contain data on household and individual characteristics. In the archive, the 2001 data are stored in four files. They are: Household characteristics from core questionnaires (Study ID 01190) Individual characteristics from core questionnaires (Study ID 01191) Health, expenditure and rice stock data from joint core-module questionnaires (Study ID 01192) Health, education, employment and fertility and family planning data from joint core-module questionnaires (Study ID 01193) This file (Study ID 01190) contains household data gathered from core questionnaires (equivalent questions may be found in the questionnaire VSEN2001.KM in the manual). Variables include identification of place, household size, housing characteristics (including ownership status of the house and physical condition of the building) and household expenditure (itemised).
