资源简介:
Individuals Enslaved at the Wickham House in Richmond, VA, 1812-1854 contains information about 33 people enslaved during an approximately 42-year period at the Wickham House, a National Historic Landmark located at 1015 East Clay Street in Richmond, Virginia. John and Elizabeth Wickham enslaved all of the people included in the dataset at some point during the aforementioned time period. The biographical information included helps paint a picture of the scale and nature of urban slavery in 19th-century Virginia. This is part of a larger effort to document the names and biographical details of all of the people enslaved by John Wickham and his children. The Wickham family enslaved a very large number of people throughout the Richmond region – hundreds, if not thousands of individuals in total over time. The intention of publishing this information is to provide a resource for descendants of these individuals who are undertaking research into their family histories.
