Data for Woodland survey 2
In the woodlot, the percent coverage of the canopy and distance to nearest sapling was measured for adult elm trees. Elm trees were selected at random from an area of approximately one hectare. A tree was determined to be adult at about three times the height of a human. The distances between saplings and adults were rounded to the nearest tenth of a meter. Canopy coverage was estimated by viewing the sky from the base of the tree through a square formed by my thumbs and index fingers. These two variables were recorded for ten adult elm trees.
