Vacation and travel behavior of the West German population in 1990.

Topics: frequency of vacation in the last three years; destination
areas; shaping personal life (selected forms of behavior, typology,
scale); work orientation; leisure orientation; stay at place of
vacation or tour; repeated trips to travel destination; type of
vacation; (psychological) demands of a vacation; trip month; vacation
duration; time of trip decision; sources of information; use of various
tour operators; use of a travel agent; services booked; form of
organization of the planned trip and means of transport used; charter
flight or scheduled flight; booking flight as well as lodging; booking
costs; catalogs and and pamphlets of the tour operator used; type of
lodging as well as meals on vacation; accompanied by someone from one´s
household and age of these persons; trip budget and distribution of the
expenditures among vacation preparation, travel, lodging, meals and
secondary expenses; judgement on the price/performance relationship at
place of vacation; personal activities and occupations at place of
vacation; types of sport conducted during the vacation; satisfaction
with vacation; information on second or third vacation trips;
preference up to now and future interest in various forms of vacation;
preferred vacation regions at home and abroad; frequency of short
vacation trips; interest in a vacation trip in 1991 and extent of
current plans; preferred vacation regions in the former GDR and FRG;
attractiveness and image of selected countries as country to visit on
vacation.

Demography: age; sex; marital status; denomination; education; occupation;
professional activity; net household income; sources of income (over DM 300);
household composition; respondent is head of household; characteristics of
the head of household.

Miscellaneous: living together with a partner; having a yard; car
possession; expected development of the financial situation of one´s
household; moving to the Federal Republic since 1989; use of newspapers
and magazines; willingness to cooperate in a further survey on the
topic of tourism.

The following questions were also posed to non-travelers: year of last
vacation trip; reason for not taking vacation trips.

Also encoded were: willingness of respondent to cooperate; time of
interview; degree of urbanization.
