ES Protected Lands Mar2025

The intent of the Protected Land layer, produced by the Elkhorn Slough Foundation (ESF), is to highlight the results of decades of effort by multiple organizations in conserving the Elkhorn Slough watershed. ESF, a community-based non-profit organization, and the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, a partnership between California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, work together to conserve and restore Elkhorn Slough and its watershed. Through purchase or donation, we have together protected over 5,500 acres of land. This land contains a variety of habitats from tidal wetlands within the Slough itself to oak woodlands and maritime chaparral on the surrounding hillsides.
