VPRS 20627 Ballarat Tramway Traffic Wages Books

This series consists of wages books recording the amount of fortnightly wages received by employees of the Tramway Traffic Department of the Electric Supply Company of Victoria, Ballarat, for the period 1914 to 1934. The occupations of the employees listed in these wages books are generally drivers (called motormen) and conductors. For individuals who had other occupations related to the operation of the Ballarat Tramways, such as painters, trackmen, car cleaners, labourers, inspectors and so on, there is a separate set of wages books from the Tramway Department (VPRS 20626). In addition to recording individual wages, the purpose of the record also appears to have an accounting function, to allocate costs performed by each individual to particular budget lines.
