SAL021 - Wail Salawati - Basic words ( landscape, plants, animals, numbers, qualities, cultural items; Speaker: Dina Tepinbuh)

This dataset contains elicited basic vocabulary from the Wail dialect of Salawati with Dina Tepinbuh (born 1955), a native speaker of Wail Salawati. The words cover the semantic domains of landscape, plants, animals, numbers, qualities, and cultural items (corresponding to the items in orange ink on pages 16-42 in the Fieldnotes); all words are recorded in isolation, utterance-final, and utterance-medial context. The session was recorded on 16 March 2023, in Solol village (Salawati island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a British Academy Small Grant (SG1920\100342).
