To investigate if latissimus dorsi (LD) activity during trunk and pelvic girdle motions is comparable to its activity during shoulder internal rotation (SIR). Fifteen physically active males performed maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVICs) of SIR and 12 trunk and pelvic movements. Surface electromyography (sEMG) was used to measure LD muscle activity. LD muscle activity was recorded using a multichannel surface electromyography (sEMG) amplifier/processor unit (MyoClinical, Noraxon USA INC; Scottsdale, AZ). Bipolar Ag-AgCl disc surface electrodes (Blue Sensor SE, Ambu Inc. Denmark) were used with a 2 cm inter-electrode distance. The raw sEMG signal was amplified (input impedance: 10 MΩ, gain: 1000x, common mode rejection ratio: >115 dB), full-wave rectified, and filtered using a 6th order Butterworth filter (band-pass: 8-535 Hz). Inside the dataset is the average EMG activity of the means of the middle 3 out of 5 seconds of 3 trials for each motion. The dataset also has the height, weight, and age of each participant.
