Increasing the Value of Open Access Through Open Data Publication Policies

While some scholarly journals have demonstrated their commitment to research transparency and openness by issuing data policies that require authors to make their data available for validation and extension of published findings, many of these policies lack a mechanism for data review and verification. This project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (OAR 74419), seeks to identify the most effective and efficient methods for implementing data policies that incorporate these measures for supporting research transparency. Using an analysis of journal policies and surveys and interviews of editors, reviewers, and authors, the project will develop a model for robust data policy implementation that provides clear guidance on implementing robust data policies that support the discoverability, accessibility and usability of data underlying published articles.
