The 1200 color digital fundus images of the posterior pole from the Messidor database were acquired using three color video 3CCD cameras mounted on a Topcon TRC NW6 non-mydriatic retinal camera with a 45-degree field of view. Images were captured with 8 bits per color plane at resolutions of 1440×960, 2240×1488, or 2304×1536 pixels. A total of 800 images were acquired with pupil dilation (one drop of 0.5% tropicamide), while the remaining 400 images were captured without pupil dilation. The 1200 images are packaged into three sets, one for each ophthalmology department. Each set is divided into 4 compressed subsets, each containing 100 images in TIFF format and an Excel file that stores the medical diagnostic information for each individual image.
