EuroCoAT. The European Corpus of Academic Talk.

This corpus is the result is a three-year research project into the use of metaphor in office hours’ consultations involving Spanish undergraduate students. These students were spending a period of time on an ERASMUS grant at a university in another European country (Ireland, England, Sweden, and The Netherlands) where English is the medium of instruction. It aims to contribute to the knowledge about office hours’ consultations and the kind of conversations that lecturers have with students from other European universities, with whom they most often do not share the same mother tongue or the same cultural background – which includes, of course, their understanding of university life, the teaching and learning activities that take place there or the systems used to assess students’ academic progress and achievement. These recordings were made between April 2012 and February 2013 in the four countries mentioned above. We hope that the data made available through this website will prove of use to other researchers interested in metaphor, academic discourse, or intercultural communication more generally.本语料库（corpus）源自一项为期三年的研究项目，该项目聚焦于西班牙本科生参与的办公答疑咨询（office hours’ consultations）中的隐喻使用情况。这些学生依托伊拉斯谟（ERASMUS）奖学金，在爱尔兰、英格兰、瑞典、荷兰这四个欧洲国家的高校进行了一段访学，上述高校均以英语作为授课语言。 本语料库旨在丰富有关办公答疑咨询以及高校讲师与其他欧洲高校学生间对话模式的研究认知——这类对话的双方往往不共享母语与文化背景，而这自然涵盖了双方对大学生活、当地教学与学习活动，以及用于评估学生学业进展与成果的评价体系的认知。 本次录音采集工作于2012年4月至2013年2月间在上述四个国家完成。我们期望本网站公开的这批数据，能够为对隐喻研究、学术话语（academic discourse）研究，或是更广泛的跨文化交际（intercultural communication）研究感兴趣的其他研究者提供助力。
