Survey on the Importance of Wildlife to Canadians, 1981

<p>The study was conducted to obtain information on the socio-economic importance of wildlife so that support might be gained for the continuation of programs in this area.</p> <p>Three major objectives for the SIWC were presented:</p> <ol> <li>to provide basic, accurate, and reliable data on wildlife-related activities to help agencies assess wildlife programs;</li> <li> to provide data that are relatively current, are homogeneous across provincial boundaries, and allow valid trend analysis at 5-year intervals; and</li> <li>to provide data that are comprehensive with regard to a number of groups of wildlife species, and to a number of wildlife-related activities throughout the year.</li> </ol> <p>This survey was revised from the Survey on the Value of Wildlife to Canadians for 1981 to the Survey on the Importance of Wildlife to Canadians for 1987 and 1991, and then to the Survey on the Importance of Nature to Canadians for 1996. The survey was discontinued in 1997.</p>
