The study describes a method used in isolation and culture of the local circulating SARS-CoV-2 in Kenya from clinical samples. The isolates were cultured on Vero CCL-81 cells followed by RNA extraction from the supernatants, and finally performing RT-PCR. This virus isolate will be expanded and made available to the Kenya Ministry of Health and other research institutions for the advancement of SARS-CoV-2 research in Kenya and the region as a whole.
