The Dormition of the Virgin

This is a modern copy of the original marble relief that is a part of the Capella del Voto in Siena Cathedral, Italy. The scene depicted shows the Virgin Mary, who was conceived without sin and gave birth to Christ, and therefore could not have been corrupted by death. The risen Christ has come to gather up his mother's soul in his arms to take her to heaven.本作品为意大利锡耶纳大教堂（Siena Cathedral）内许愿礼拜堂（Capella del Voto）所藏原始大理石浮雕的现代复制品。其所描绘的场景为：无玷成胎并诞下耶稣基督的圣母玛利亚（Virgin Mary），因其神圣性未曾为死亡所腐化；复活的耶稣基督正将其母亲的灵魂拥入怀中，携往天国。
