MATRIX project, monkeys near Kampala in Uganda

Monkeys were counted along transects using standard primate census techniques twice a month for nine months, starting October 2011. Transect lines (Buckland, Plumptre, Thomas, & Rexstad, 2010) were established in each forest patch along which monkey censuses were conducted. The number and length of the transects was dependent on the size of the forest patch, following the longest distance across the forest. The census was done between 0700hrs and 1100hrs and later between 1500hrs to 1900hrs since the monkeys tend to be more active in the early morning and late afternoon (Davies & Hoffmann, 2002). During each census, the transect was walked at approximately 1km/hr and all observed monkeys were recorded.

本研究自2011年10月启动，连续9个月内每月开展两次调查，采用标准灵长类动物普查技术，沿样线对猴子进行计数。每条样线（Buckland, Plumptre, Thomas, & Rexstad, 2010）均布设至各森林斑块内，猴子普查工作即沿该样线进行。样线的数量与长度依据森林斑块的规模确定，以贯穿森林的最长距离为参照标准。普查时段选定为每日7:00至11:00，以及15:00至19:00，因猴子在清晨与傍晚时段活跃度更高（Davies & Hoffmann, 2002）。每次普查过程中，调查人员以约1公里/小时的速度沿样线行进，记录所有观测到的猴子个体。
