资源简介:
Air from the ice and firn (compressed snow) of the Antarctic ice sheet will be extracted and measured for atmospheric composition in the past. Gases of interest are greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) and ozone depleting gases (CFCs, halons). The aim is to understand the budgets of these important atmospheric constituents.
The ice cores drilled for the gas measurements will also be measured for isotopic ratios and chemical impurities, which provides information about past climate.
