Digital travelogues. Saxony in travelogues of the late Middle Ages and early modern times

Since 2000, the Institute for Saxon History and Cultural Anthropology (ISGV) in Dresden has been compiling a bibliography listing references to Saxony and central Germany in travelogues from the late Middle Ages to the early modern period. In 2012, it was first published in print form and later transferred to an Access database. For a long-planned and since then realised online presentation, the data was exported to the free database Wikidata in collaboration with the Saxon State and University Library (SLUB). The data is stored in Wikidata under item Q105102869. The last major modification of the data set by the project participants there was executed on 15 March 2024. This publication reflects this data status, including minor modifications that have since been made manually to individual sub-items as of 25 October 2025. It contains the dump of data from two SPARQL queries in different data formats: a list of all travelogues recorded, consisting of the Qid and the title of the travelogue (travelogues.csv, travelogues.html, travelogues.json), see https://w.wiki/4yae; a list of all travelogues recorded including all places visited, consisting of the Qid and the title of the travelogue, the Qid and standardised name of the place, the name as it appears in the travelogue if it differs from the standardised form, and, if available, a link to a digital or digitised publication of of the respective sections of the travelogue (travelogues_with-places-visited.csv, travelogues_with-places-visited.html, travelogues_with-places-visited.json), see https://w.wiki/Fo4P.
