The synthesis and structural characterization of the first iron complex derived from the salen-type thymidine-based ligand 1 is reported; the crystal structure of [FeIII(3‘,5‘-bis(salicylaldiminato)-3‘,5‘-dideoxy-β-d-xylo-thymidine)(SCN)] (Fe1) reveals an unusual coordination polymer arranged as a homochiral array of right-handed helices with four-fold screw symmetry.
