POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT IA 79612, NEW MEXICO

Samples from a hearth (Feature 2) at LA 79612 were sampled for pollen and
macrofloral remains. Ceramic types recovered suggest that the site is a Navajo
temporary encampment, and charcoal from the hearth yielded a radiocarbon age of
550 + 60 BP. In addition, one pollen and one flotation sample were examined from
the modern surface in order to provide controls for samples collected from the
hearth. Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to recover subsistence
information from this hearth.

对LA 79612遗址内2号灶坑（特征2，Feature 2）的沉积物样本开展了孢粉（pollen）与大植物遗存（macrofloral remains）采样分析。出土的陶瓷器类型表明该遗址为纳瓦霍族（Navajo）的临时营地，灶坑出土的木炭样本经放射性碳测年得到距今550±60年（Before Present，BP）的结果。此外，为给灶坑采集的样本提供对照样本（controls），研究人员对现代地表的1份孢粉样本与1份浮选样本（flotation sample）进行了检测分析。本次通过孢粉与大植物遗存分析，旨在从该灶坑样本中提取先民生计相关的考古信息。
