Large-scale flume experiments were conducted in the Total Environment Simulator at the University of Hull in order to study ripple dynamics in mixed sand–clay substrates under combined flows. This dataset provides detailed information of wave-current ripple development, recording by Ultrasonic Range System (URS), from beds with the initial clay content between 0% and 12.3%. In addition, the results of grain size analysis, using Malvern Mastersizer 2000, from sediment cores collected during the experiments are included, showing vertical change in clay content with ripple evolution. Moreover, hydrodynamic data including near-bed flow velocities monitored by Vectrino Profilers and water surface elevation recorded by acoustic water level sensors are also in the present dataset.
