Eurobarometer 7 (Apr-May 1977)

The two major topics of this Eurobarometer are:

1. Attitudes to the European Community and to the Common Market,

2. The role of science and technology.

Topics: 1. Attitudes to the European Community and to the Common
Market: judgement on the importance of various political goals such as
e.g. fighting inflation, freedom of speech, maintenance of law and
order as well as the right to a say in government decisions;
satisfaction with the social system and democracy in the country;
judgement on the role of the national and European Parliament as well
as of the role of the representatives; attitude to direct election of
the European Parliament and to a common election campaign of parties of
the same orientation; intent to participate in the election; voting
intent in the European Election; party ties and voting intent at
national level; interest in European problems such as e.g.
environmental protection, control of multi-national companies, defense,
new member states and just distribution of burdens in the EC; judgement
on the information policies of the media regarding European questions.

2. The role of science and technology: judgement on the change of
circumstances in the last 25 years; scientific discoveries and their
effect on the change of society; interest in information on scientific
innovations; judgement on government research support; usefulness of
science for developing countries; dangers from scientific research;
image of the sciences; preferred scientific research tasks; judgement
on scientists in scientific television broadcasts and interest in such
broadcasts; general contentment with life; political interest;
left-right orientation; company size; opinion leadership.

Demography: company size; religiousness; age; sex; marital status;
nationality; religious denomination; school education; occupation;
household income; size of household; composition of household; head of
household; party preference; city size; state.
