The research presented in this report works to contribute to the field of open-loop recycling by investigating pyrolysis of textile waste into char and biochar. Carbon-rich char and biochar are gaining traction as a sustainable strategy for soil amendment, waste management, and carbon sequestration. The char/biochar distinction is based on input: char is produced via the thermal decomposition of synthetic or man-made materials, while biochar is composed of biomass materials. The aim of this project was to produce and characterize various samples of char and biochar from 13 textile-waste feedstocks via pyrolysis. Data regarding yield and material characterization were collected through proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, and elemental composition tests.

本报告呈现的研究旨在为开环回收(open-loop recycling)领域贡献学术成果,通过探究纺织废料热解(pyrolysis)制备炭(char)与生物炭(biochar)的工艺路径。富炭材质的炭与生物炭作为土壤改良(soil amendment)、废弃物管理与碳封存(carbon sequestration)的可持续方案正日益受到行业青睐。炭与生物炭的区分依据其原料来源:炭由合成或人造材料经热分解制得,而生物炭则以生物质材料为原料制备。 本项目的目标为通过热解工艺,以13种纺织废料原料制备多组炭与生物炭样品并对其进行物性表征。研究通过工业分析(proximate analysis)、元素分析(ultimate analysis)以及元素组成测试,收集了与样品产率及材料表征相关的全部数据。
