Systematic review of post-fire forest recovery at high latitudes

Through this systematic review, we sought to determine the general relationship between post-fire tree regeneration densities and latitude in forests above 40º N/S. We expected regeneration densities post-fire would decrease with increasing latitude, and that forest regeneration would be negatively impacted by high burn severities, forest management, harsh site conditions, and unprotected microsites. We also anticipated that light-demanding species with adaptations to fire would replace shade-tolerant species that lack such adaptations post-fire. To achieve our objective and test our hypotheses, we analyzed 93 articles that directly measured post-fire regeneration at or above 40º N/S.本研究通过系统综述，旨在明确北纬/南纬40度以上森林中，火灾后树木更新密度与纬度之间的普遍关联。我们推测火灾后更新密度将随纬度升高而降低，且森林更新会受到高火烧烈度、森林经营活动、严酷立地条件以及未受保护微生境的负面影响。我们同时预期，具备火适应性的喜光物种将在火灾后取代缺乏此类适应性的耐阴物种。为达成研究目标并验证上述假说，我们分析了93篇直接测量北纬/南纬40度及以上区域火灾后树木更新情况的文献。
