Aquatic Animal Health

This project is concerned with enhancing the emergency disease response capability of the Department of Fisheries and industry bodies associated with non-maxima oyster culture.Relatively few major disease outbreaks have occurred within the WA aquaculture industries and as a result there has been limited opportunity for an integrated multi-agency approach. The Department has also been fortunate that the remote and isolated nature of most of WA has not seriously affected the limited emergencies so far experienced. Simulation exercises provide a practical method of exposing and training staff in the management of aquatic disease emergencies.An exercise was held in November 2002 at Geraldton, with the active involvement of the Department of Agriculture and AMWING, the industry body representing non-maxima pearl oyster producers.The project will: o Increase knowledge of emergency management procedures within WA Fisheries and within the non-maxima oyster industry. o Improve WA Government and industry emergency management procedures. o Incorporate outcomes into the development of environmental management systems by non-maxima industry that is being undertaken as part of Environment Australia eco-efficiency program. Time : due for completion in 2004.

本项目旨在提升西澳大利亚州（Western Australia，简称WA）渔业部及关联的非大珠母贝养殖（non-maxima oyster culture）行业协会的突发疫病应急处置能力。西澳大利亚州水产养殖业迄今鲜有大规模疫病暴发事件，因此多部门协同应急的实践机会相对匮乏。此外，由于西澳大利亚州多数区域偏远闭塞，目前发生的有限几起应急事件未受到严重影响，渔业部对此亦深感庆幸。模拟演练是提升从业人员水生动物疫病应急管理能力的实用训练方式。2002年11月，杰拉尔顿（Geraldton）举办了一场模拟演练，农业部与代表非大珠母贝珍珠养殖户的行业协会AMWING均积极参与了本次活动。本项目将达成以下目标：• 提升西澳大利亚州渔业部及非大珠母贝养殖行业对疫病应急管理流程的认知水平；• 优化西澳大利亚州政府及行业的疫病应急管理流程；• 将项目成果融入非大珠母贝养殖行业的环境管理体系建设中，该体系建设作为澳大利亚环境署（Environment Australia）生态效益项目的组成部分正在推进。项目预计于2004年完成。
