An extract of a gall-inducing aphid, Schlechtendalia chinensis, induces excessive or ectopic nutritive, vascular, and protective tissues, as observed in typical insect galls. This analysis is a part of the Arabidopsis-based Gall Formation Assay (Ab-GALFA), and shows its availability as a model system for analyzing the molecular mechanisms of gall formation. This work provided the following conditions. Arabidopsis wild-type Columbia (Col-0) was grown on vertical half-strength Murashige and Skoog plates in a growth chamber at 22ðC under a 16 hr of light and 8 hr of dark cycle. 4-day-old seedlings were dipped in water or S. chinensis extract for 15 hr. Total RNA was isolated and sequenced.
