This dataset is part of a paper that describes the first veterinary tumour registry (TR) built from electronic pathology records (EPR) submitted to the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET). It was created from an original collection of 180,232 free text (non-structured) cytology and histopathology EPRs reported between April 2018 and June 2019 by using a specific text-mining methodology to identify 109,895 neoplasias. These data were normalized to describe both the tumour (type and location) and the animal (breed, neutering status and veterinary practice postcode). The resulting TR is the largest of its kind for companion animals to date. The TR is being used to confirm risk factors for several tumour types and identify new ones in such a way that this data set can facilitate a wide array of research in areas including surveillance, clinical decision making and comparative cancer biology.
