White fat browning is a highly variable genetic trait in mice (Guerra et al., 1998). To gain an overview of strain variations in browning capacities, we performed transcriptome analysis of white fat browning in (1) 5 inbred mouse strains (C57BL/6J, 129S6sv/ev, A/J, AKR/J, and SWR/J) with distinct browning propensities in WAT, and (2) F1 hybrids derived from a high (129S6sv/ev) and low browning strain (C57BL/6J) cross. White fat browning is a highly variable genetic trait in mice (Guerra et al., 1998). To gain an overview of strain variations in browning capacities, we performed transcriptome analysis of white fat browning in three genetic models (Figure 1A), including (1) 5 inbred mouse strains (C57BL/6J, 129S6sv/ev, A/J, AKR/J, and SWR/J) with distinct browning propensities in WAT, (2) F1 hybrids derived from a high (129S6sv/ev) and low browning strain (C57BL/6J) cross.

白色脂肪褐变是小鼠中一类高度可变的遗传性状(Guerra等人,1998)。为全面解析不同品系小鼠的褐变能力差异,我们针对三种遗传模型开展了白色脂肪褐变的转录组分析(图1A),具体包括:(1) 5个在白色脂肪组织(white adipose tissue,WAT)中褐变倾向各异的近交小鼠品系:C57BL/6J、129S6sv/ev、A/J、AKR/J及SWR/J;(2) 由高褐变品系129S6sv/ev与低褐变品系C57BL/6J杂交获得的F1杂交后代。
